Vitriol For Vitter: Hypocrite Or Human?

By Doug Wrenn

July 24, 2007

Section Five - Infidelity

Article 1- Us- Lie, deny, cover up and defiantly wag your finger at the TV camera until caught, rally troops in Rose Garden for photo-op, speak redundantly of forgiveness, bear all on Larry King, then move on and run for re-election. Keep stressing that this entire issue is very "complex." Lastly, don't worry. Your resume and legacy has just improved with our open-minded, "if it feels good do it," " challenge authority," non-judgmental base! Congratulations!

Article 2-Them- When caught, never let up. Follow and harangue spouse and kids. After every fifth word, insert the word, "hypocrite" into your commentary, continually bash those guilty and anyone in general vicinity as being anti-woman, homophobes, and fringe, far right wing Christian whacko zealots. Dig up more dirt, investigate all personal and financial history of guilty party and all family members, and put up "moderate" mole in opposition party to challenge incumbent in next election. Meanwhile, contact New York Times, Washington Post, CNN and all three major networks. Demand apology. After apology received, state it's not enough. Demand resignation to strengthen moderate mole's campaign. Heighten all rhetoric pertaining to free choice and being non-judgmental. Get George Soros to write another check and if necessary, have Michael Moore film another movie. See Larry "The Hustler" Flynt for "research and development." Armed with these tools and resources, search and destroy all such no-good, lustful, double-talking infidels at will! Such degenerates of low character must be stopped at all costs and by all means!

(Democrat Electoral Playbook, Page 85)

Indeed, to paraphrase the popular book about men and women, " Republicans Are From Mars, Democrats Are From Venus." We're different, and substituting the words "conservatives" and "liberals" for "Republicans" and "Democrats" in that context would probably make little difference. And while I am not aware of the existence of any actual "Democrat Electoral Playbook," the typical plays made by the Democrats and their minions certainly more often appear to be "encores" rather than "debuts."

US Senator David Vitter (R-LA) campaigned on conservative Christian issues of life, family and traditional marriage. He appears to now be caught in one or more acts of infidelity to his wife, Wendy, and possibly patronizing a prostitute, as Vitter's phone number was traced to the phone records of the now famous "DC Madam," who is on the hook for prostitution charges stemming from her Washington escort service that supposedly has catered to the lustful desires of many of our big name Beltway bureaucrats. Vitter, like his House predecessor, Robert Livingston, was caught by Democrat ally and infamous porn purveyor, Larry Flynt, a reprobate driven by an agenda with a list of motives that have much more to do with self than country. The very affluent Flynt posted an ad in the Washington press rewarding a million dollar bounty to anyone who could produce any goods on any politicians, with the emphasis seeming to lean toward Republicans, or "hypocrites," from what Flynt alluded to in a recent television interview regarding his slimy pet project. His multi-million dollar bank account from his entrepreneurship in the sex trade, of which his magazine, Hustler, (appropriately named) was only one component, shows that Flynt's motives aren't at all difficult to discern, and why he is so jubilant about having Senator Vitter in sighted his crosshairs. I don't recall Flynt wearing such feigned patriotism on his sleeve during the various Clinton peccadilloes.

Vitter went into hiding for a short while after the story first broke. Presumably, he may have been under Flynt's rock since the previous subterranean occupant recently crawled out and exposed his hideous face to daylight. After his short exile, Vitter scheduled a press conference with his wife, Wendy by his side. This is an underhanded and scurrilous tactic that politicians caught in trysts have done time and again, drag the Mrs. out with you so that you can both be humiliated, while hoping to simultaneously implement damage control to your wounded political career with the old "Stand by your man" tactic. Kudos to Wendy for her courage. Shame on David for his cowardice.

For his part, Vitter conveniently acknowledged that his phone number did appear in the Madam's phone records. (Duh, Romeo! Now tell us something we don't know!) He did not expound any further. No guts, no glory, pal. Get off the fence; spit it out or shut it up. As Newsday journalist and "Fox News Watch" talking head Jim Pinkerton has recently mentioned, Vitter's half explanation won't make this debacle go away, and for that reason, indeed it should not. Vitter is a public official, and his character, as well as any possible violation of the law, is fair game. I don't have a problem with Flynt exposing Vitter. I have a problem with Flynt's motives for exposing Vitter. It's politics, party, power, and indirectly, perhaps even some personal gain, but certainly not patriotism. There are also unsubstantiated claims that Vitter was also a patron at some brothels in New Orleans. Undoubtedly, his cryptic version of candor will not end that informational hunt either, whether the charges are factual or not.

While Vitter only earned partial credit for his carefully choreographed semi-admission of not necessarily guilt, full points, and some equally well deserved prayers go to his wife, Wendy, who stood and publicly took the fire that her husband's actions, whatever they were, had wrought.

Some distinctions need to be made here. I am a firm believer that the candidate runs for office, not his family. The candidate is fair game, not his wife and kids, and especially not the kids, even when they screw up, regardless of the party affiliation of their parents, or regardless if their name is Vitter, Bush, and yes, even Clinton or Gore. On the wives, who are certainly of legal adult age and then some, I also believe they deserve a pass, until they deliberately seek the microphone to exploit themselves for political gain for their husbands, or in general, make flaming asses out of themselves to feed their own egos and agendas. Such examples come to mind as (then First Lady) Hillary Clinton, mocking stay at home Moms for "baking cookies," Teresa Heinz Kerry for dominating the microphone and stage at the 2004 Democrat National Convention (as if she was running for office), with a truckload of obnoxious and idiotic remarks forming a long trail both before and after that event, and more recently, Elizabeth Edwards for narcissistically choosing her husband's campaign over her children and then making a melodramatic announcement about her cancer when nobody was asking (because like Teresa Heinz Kerry, Elizabeth Edwards is not the person running for office, although it appears she also somehow missed that memo), and Michelle Obama, a pompous, pushy, big mouthed, radical feminist broad (and no, that was not the first word that came to my mind), who also thinks she is the center of attention, while often making snide, and ridiculing anti-man remarks about her trendy, emasculated husband, Barack, who just nods and smiles like a trained animal in a circus act, and like many other so-called "men," who have also willfully forsaken any and all vestiges of their masculinity and dignity and donated both their manhood and their self respect to the radical, biased and domineering feminist so-called cause of today. That twisted, so-called feminist cause is one in which many women are domineering, self-centered…(that word I almost used before), many men are clueless, helpless wimps, and kids are, sadly in many cases, an annoying necessity that we warehouse in daycare all week until we can parade them around to publicly show off as trophies on the weekends to bloat our already overgrown but insatiable egos.

Such was not the case with Wendy Vitter, however. First of all, whatever David Vitter did, she apparently already knew about it, as both she and hubby alluded, so while this little tidbit of gossip might be titillating for the goggle-eyed old pervert who pushes the skin mags chock full of silicone inflated bimbi, this situation is obviously old news that has already been addressed in the privacy of the Vitter home. Wendy Vitter demonstrated as much class as she did guts. She was a consummate and exemplary lady. She also mentioned forgiveness, and in the very realistic sense, that it's not at all easy, although very necessary. She also firmly, yet very tactfully requested that the press and media stop hounding her and her family at their home and even at their church. This is where the line is crossed. When egotistical blowhards, like those I listed before, put their aircraft carrier foot squarely into the vast abyss known as their mouth while riding on hubby's coattails, they're fair game, but any worm who harangues a mother and her children at their own home and even at their church is not at all a "professional;" he is a parasite. You unprincipled, misguided, soulless journalistic whores heard it from Wendy Vitter, now you're hearing it from me: get off their front lawn, stay away from their church and leave Wendy Vitter and her children ALONE! That's not "freedom" of the press. With freedom comes responsibility. What you fourth estate ghouls are indulging yourselves in is "license," which benefits nobody but your own twisted egos and grossly self-exaggerated sense of importance. That's precisely what I mean about wimps. There was a time when real men left legitimately innocent women and children alone. Go after David Vitter with the zeal of a hungry pit bull, but leave his family alone, at home, at their place of worship and everywhere else. And you people wonder why your circulation rates and TV ratings are in the toilet! It's because that's where you are! Now, somebody, please flush!

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming. I am already sick of hearing such lofty moral pillars like Flynt and the various liberal pundits calling David Vitter a hypocrite. On the charges that he is still not completely forthcoming, they have him dead to rights, and like Jim Pinkerton, I also don't think that story is over yet, not should it be over yet, but is Vitter a hypocrite? I don't think so.

First of all, there is plenty of dirt to throw from both sides of the political aisle. As Tony Blankley, Washington Times editor recently mentioned on "The McLaughlin Group," Ted Kennedy champions women's rights, but he exploits female waitresses in Washington restaurants. (Blankley was presumably referring to a notorious 1985 incident that allegedly occurred in La Brasserie, a Washington restaurant, in which Kennedy and his favorite barstool drinking buddy, Senator and presidential wannabe, Chris Dodd (D-CT), rough-housed a waitress, knocking her to the floor, (or as told in another version, on top of a table and then onto a chair) with one of them under her, another one on top, and neither letting her back up, thus creating what has since been sordidly dubbed "The Waitress Sandwich," which was supposedly only one of this Democrat duo's legendary Washington nightlife type escapades.) I would add to Blankley's observation that those championing women's rights, such as Teddy Kennedy should also not leave a woman, such as Mary Jo Kopechne, to needlessly drown in a car submerged in only six feet of water without calling for help for several hours while they instead make about a hundred phone calls to establish their alibi, and then come out of hiding the next day, wearing a neck-brace in time for the photo-ops. Make no mistake about it; "The Liberal Lion" is about as legitimately consumed with women's rights as was "Jack The Ripper," a means to an end.

Vitter isn't the only Christian conservative public person of notoriety, be it politician or evangelist, who has gone astray and then been tagged with the label, "hypocrite" by the immoral left. If in fact Vitter was unfaithful to his wife, he was wrong, and I cut him no slack for that, but his actions at least prove that he is a flawed human being, no different from any of us. It does not necessarily mean that he does not believe the ideals he professes. It is entirely possible that Vitter very much subscribes to the conservative Christian tenets, but his resolve for fidelity weakened and he may have capitulated to the very strong human urges of lust for whatever reason(s). Liberals like throwing around the word "hypocrite," not just out of spite or revenge, but also because they feel that it empowers them, because deep in their hearts, they know they are wrong, not just for what they do, but for what they promote, and we conservatives disturb them greatly for pointing that out to them. As pornography further saturates our culture, now in rapid expansion due to the Internet, we are learning more about its sheer evil and detriment, including unquenchable and increasingly powerful and perverted addiction, sexually transmitted diseases, broken families, sex crimes upon adults and children alike, and on the list goes. Meanwhile, cretins like Larry Flynt get ("filthy") rich, fat and happy killing lives, families and souls without losing a wink of sleep. Guys like David Vitter also trample on homosexuality, a genuine disorder literally bullied out of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual by gay advocates in 1973. Since then, the APA has further played ball with the gay lobby and now it bans its members from trying to treat homosexuals seeking conversion to heterosexuality, and it has done so since 1994. The liberals don't want us to know about the other afflictions that go hand in hand with homosexuality, such as fatal sexually transmitted diseases, substance abuse, depression, suicide, and other self destructive behavior in this "alternative lifestyle." They don't want guys like David Vitter trampling on "a woman's right to choose…" Please allow me to complete that statement, "…to murder her baby in the womb." The libs also don't want women to know about supportive organizations who will help them and their baby up to and including time of delivery, and if desired, to adoption. They also don't want anyone to know about the very significant emotional and physical detrimental side effects of abortion after the procedure is done. They don't want men who impregnate underage girls exposed or reported, and they don't want parents to be apprised when these underage girls choose to receive this potentially harmful and inherently evil procedure, and sometimes even in locations across state lines. They don't want pregnant women being shown sonograms of the offspring they are about to kill, or those women to be informed how early their babies (or 'fetuses," of you prefer) feel pain, including in this grisly procedure. So much for championing women's rights, concern or "the children," and advocating for "choice." Meanwhile, 40+ million babies have been cavalierly butchered since Roe vs. Wade. I wonder how many of them would have otherwise grown up to become active, voting Democrats. The liberals don't want guys like David Vitter to tell us that embryonic stem cell research, unlike adult stem cell research for all its exorbitant cost and puffed hype, not only takes human life, but actually cures absolutely nothing. But it does contribute to malignant tumors, as we have seen in lab rats. In short, the Democrat Party is simply the party of evil. But Democrats don't talk about that. They don't boast about it. They just deny it and try not to think about it. Democrats don't do real well with facts, which is why they prefer sound bites to debates, euphemisms to straight talk, and judges legislating from the bench as opposed to legislators vigorously making their argument in what is supposed to be a representative republic. Then along come guys like David Vitter and all their fun gets spoiled when he turns the light on and we can all see these cockroaches running from visibility. After all, they do all their best work behind closed doors and in the dark, which is where they belong anyway. The real issue here is not any hypocrisy on the part of David Vitter. The real issue here is that guys like David Vitter show us the forbidden fruit, and when thus exposed, all we hear from its proponents is sour grapes.

Hypocrites come in all stripes from both parties and we have seen many of them before. They trend to be associated with words like "waffle" and "flip-flop," because they perpetually have their fingers in the wind to satisfy the masses without possessing any core values. One of the reasons Ronald Reagan was such a popular President was because he didn't just talk the talk, he walked the walk as well. Compare Reagan to champion flip-floppers and wafflers like Al Gore, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, and yes, Mitt Romney, who has to lay out his "beliefs" with his clothes before getting ready to leave the house in the morning, so that he'll know what to say that afternoon. These people are all phonies. They continually lie about what they simply believe in. Just because David Vitter may have succumbed to sin as in imperfect human being, it does not necessarily mean that he does not believe in the ideals he espouses, or that he does not feel deep remorse for not only betraying his God and his wife, but himself as well. Compare that to liberals like Larry Flynt, who typically think it's both healthy and necessary to have pornography completely accessible on the computers in public libraries, while screaming bloody murder about having the Ten Commandments posted on the wall of a courtroom, and distributing condoms in the same classrooms in which Bibles are banned. Liberals like Flynt advocate for free speech only when it favors their corrosive crusades, such as protecting public pornography while banning public prayer. Now that's hypocrisy, and furthermore, it's sheer and consuming evil. See the difference now?

OK, so maybe David Vitter isn't a saint, but he can still be a Christian. He may be human, but that doesn't necessarily make him a hypocrite, especially if he cleans up his act, and to that extent, he has stated that in addition to addressing this issue with his wife, he has also formally confessed his sins to a priest in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. I wonder when or if Larry Flynt ever confessed his sins. Just as there is a difference between being human and being a hypocrite, there is also a difference between being proud and being humble. Fat-cat flesh peddler Larry Flynt exhibits pride to a sinful extreme. As a practicing Catholic myself, I can tell you that fewer endeavors in life make me sweat as much as making my confession to a priest, but confession is still necessary and it is the epitome of humility, and as Saint Bernard said, "Humility is the mother of salvation." Talk is cheap, but if in fact David Vitter did formally confess his sins, than that is a strong example of humility, and some worthy semblance of remorse and credibility. As far as his side of the full story, the American people have a right to know and he has a duty to tell them. On that one, he dropped the ball, at least, so far. Wendy Vitter and her children did absolutely nothing wrong, nor anything to even remotely deserve the mortification and unbridled harassment that has been foisted upon them. They are as deserving of our prayers as they are of their privacy. Those who continue to do bully them under the deliberately manipulated guise of journalism are no more than rank predators and punks who do not at all uphold the First Amendment by their repugnant behavior, but only stain it. The people of Louisiana should determine the future of David Vitter's political career in the voting booths. If he is formally convicted of a crime while in office, he should be impeached before he can even run again.

And last but not least, for those who willingly, and even subtly promote and protect the degradation of our culture and society, the depraved exploitation of weak women, the ruination of the family and the demise of our nation, forged and founded, like it or not, on Judeo/Christian values, and who do so under the sleazy camouflage of strategically crafted words like "hypocrite" for their own hedonistic and narcissistic motives and goals, folks, wake up. You've been "hustled."
