Happy Independence Day, Fellow American Patriots. We Earned It!

By Doug Wrenn

July 04, 2007

"Vigilance is the eternal price of liberty."

Thomas Jefferson

High five, fellow patriots! Ain't life grand, here in the good old US of A? This will indeed be a memorable Independence Day as we swagger, proud and tall with puffed chests, pep in our steps and grins on our chins. This is what it's all about, liberty via a government of the people, by the people and for the people. When leaving the concluded Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin was accosted by a woman who asked what kind of government he and his colleagues had given the new nation. Franklin replied, "A republic, if you can keep it." It now looks like we'll be keeping it at least a while more after all.

There is nothing at all benevolent or even remotely wholesome about tyranny by "amnesty." We almost lost this battle. There was nothing in this "Immigration Reform" bill that would have in any way "reformed" illegal immigration. Our President and Congress have been corrupted by a globalist agenda, the slimy underbelly of corporate greed, an unquenchable thirst for political domination, anti-American sentiments, the abandonment, if not outright contempt for the rule of law, and in some cases, genuine naiveté, to the extent that any of them even read any of the bill.

This plan was concocted with no cost analysis. Violent felons and gang members would have been further welcomed here. The same government that can't renew your passport in less than four months claimed to do background checks on 12-20 million illegal immigrants in 24 hours, and if those checks were not done, the illegals would all have to be naturalized. Wages would be driven down further. Jobs that Americans supposedly would not do would be replaced by jobs that Americans cannot get. Z visas would all have expiration dates, but could be renewed indefinitely. And that 12-20 million figure, if even accurate, would swell to at least four times that amount when the parents, siblings, cousins and family dogs are allowed to join the now naturalized trespassers, who not only snubbed their arrogant noses at us, but to their own countrymen as well, who have anxiously waited years to come here for the same opportunities, but wanted to do it the right way by respecting our country and obeying our laws. Those who would contribute and zealously assimilate were pushed back farther in line by those who wished to break in, suck dry all our taxpayer subsidized entitlements that even many Americans can't get, forever claim their "right" to stay here, and their preference under affirmative action, while defiantly waving their foreign flags in our American faces and demanding yet even more perks for their insatiable whims and absent gratitude. And when they protested, it would be we who would pay the legal expenses for their inane argument. And one more word for some of my fellow Catholics, like Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles, and Auxiliary Bishop Peter Rosazza of the Archdiocese of Hartford, radical fringe liberals abusing their sacred offices to pursue their own personal anti-American agenda by trying to push this anarchy down our throats while hypocritically hiding behind the same cross that you desecrated, you make me wretch! Never mind sniping pot shots at our flag from behind the cross, why are you so silent about the corrupt, despotic and oppressive policies in other countries that drive your precious illegal immigrants here? And to every mayor, governor, municipal and state legislator who either made or maintained their respective cities and states as "sanctuaries," I am waiting for you traitors to be dragged away in cuffs and imprisoned for treason, and yes, America's so-called Mayor, Mr. Rudy "9/11" Giuliani, you, too! Add to that list New Haven Mayor John "DeSocialist" DeStefano, who issues city ID's to illegals, while instructing his police force to leave them alone, and the entire filthy rat pack of traitors who run the Texas border town of El Cenizo, who also give safe harbor to illegals and now conduct all official business in Spanish. To the town "padres" of El Cenizo, why don't you just cut to the chase and adopt the motto, "Forget the Alamo"? When it comes to being Americans, you secessionist traitors in El Cenizo aren't worth an "el sneezo!"

Yes, we did it. In a lesser, but still significant way, we protected America like our gallant, brave, selfless young men and women who wear the uniform and defend us every day with their very lives, and tragically, some of them already have. Their nobility in protecting us from evil and harm abroad is futile unless we secure our borders and all that is within those borders right here at home. That means a border fence. That means enforcing current laws on the books that were never enforced by the last amnesty debacle enacted in 1986. That means continued vigilance in deporting illegals, but at the same time, also passionately prosecuting those who hire and exploit them. That was one claim the illegals had right. Two wrongs don't make a right. Rounding up illegals while giving a pass to those who hire and in some cases exploit them is like fighting a war against radical Islam and terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq while ignoring our porous border with Mexico. It defeats the purpose, but it still does not justify illegal immigrants remaining here illegally. We also need to end the drivel over reduced state tuition rates, ID cards, driver licenses, free education, free (non-urgent) health care and all the other bennies we give to these foreign criminals. And by the way, yes, they are criminals. They tell you they are not but if they are here illegally, they broke the law. That's a crime. The one who perpetrates a crime is a criminal, even if he is not committing any other crimes. It's not rocket science to anyone but these crooks themselves and their loopy, dreamy, starry-eyed, politically correct pantywaist do-gooder enablers with more spare time than common sense. Any questions? If so, then first press 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, or 0 for English, and otherwise, "adios"!

A distinction needs to be made here. Republican politicians wanted amnesty to cash in from their big business donating cronies. Democrat politicians wanted amnesty because they planned to swell their ranks with favorable voters and dominate bi-partisan government. But it was the American people from both parties, as well as many unaffiliated voters and those from third parties who literally shut down the Senate switchboard with enraged and voluminous calls to their government officials that they did not want this bill to pass. This bill, if passed would have done irreparable harm to each individual American and to our nation as a whole, and the vast majority of us recognized and didn't buy the phony sales pitch-tripe from the well greased but otherwise disconnected Beltway Bureaucrats. From the President himself to the night shift janitor in the Senate, they all tried to sell their hype, first by schmoozing us, and then by trying to shout us down, but this time, it is we who drew the line in the sand. Finally, the people have been heard, but only at the 11th hour and despite the greedy desires of our willfully deaf Senators and President, who did not ignore, but more appropriately, defied the collective voices and will of the American people. My fellow patriots, liberal, conservative, moderate, Democrat, Republican, independent, we Americans united and collectively aborted a hijack of our government, just like those brave patriots aborted a terrorist attack of the White House on September 11th aboard United Flight 93. Indeed, the Americans on that plane were "united." Rest assured, none of them cared about party affiliation or ideology. They gelled together as Americans, and it was as Americans that those brave souls all sacrificed and died together. Certainly, if they could unite in death, then we can unite in life.

We have all internally had our squabbles since September 11th, and to our own fault, we allowed those squabbles to again divide us after formerly being reunited. Now get this straight, this government has proven that it can no longer be trusted! It's us against them! Barring a few exceptions, Congress from both sides of the aisle, needs to be cleaned out. We almost lost our liberty, sovereignty, national security and economic stability because our elected leaders conducted business as if we weren't even in the room, just like when President Bush tried to ram the Dubai Ports deal, Harriet Miers and warrantless wiretaps, as well as this amnesty farce down our throats. And the fight isn't over yet. For those still clinging to party labels, all the Democrats have proven since their recent sweep in the Congress is that they are just as corrupt as the Republicans.

Senator Trent Lott (R-MS) said that "Talk radio is running America" and that it must be "dealt with." I knew a smiley, smooth-talking guy like Trent Lott once. I bought a used car from him. Then I went home and took a shower. Afterward, the car was still a lemon and I still felt dirty. For you liberals who so want the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" resurrected, which would limit conservative speech and ownership of radio stations, just think, did we conservatives try to stop you from creating the now all but defunct "Air America" radio, despite decades of unimpeded liberal bias in the so-called "mainstream" news by the likes of CBS News, the New York Times, etc.? I have news for you, we all need Rush Limbaugh as much as we need Al Franken, The Washington Times as much as the New York Times (and ironically, The Washington Post as much as the New York Post), Fox News as much as CNN, and Free Republic as much as The Daily Kos. Choose either side you like, but when either one is gone, we are all in equal peril. Some of you liberals are jumping on board with this and some of you are not. My Congressional District is a hotbed bastion of deep blue liberalism, and yet when I called my Congressional Representative's office to voice my dissent against the Fairness Doctrine last week, the staffer who answered the phone told me their office was deluged by callers voicing the same opinion. I don't think all or even many of you liberals are bad people, despite my disagreement with you on most issues, but on this one, we seem to stealthily agree. Apparently, or at least in my little liberal corner of the world, you don't want this infringement on free speech any more than we conservatives do. Again, it is our elected leaders who are steering the plane for a different destination than what we desired when we purchased our ticket and boarded. Is that OK with you? I'm not talking about politicians who are against either conservative or liberal values, but politicians who are against American values. Forgive me for borrowing a now well known phrase, previously invoked by a better man than me, but, my fellow patriots, liberal and conservative alike, "LET'S ROLL!"

As Martin Niemoller opined in his famous poem, circa World War II, when the Nazi's came for each group they sought, he said nothing because he wasn't of that group until finally they came for him and then no one was left to speak up at all. Liberals and conservatives are now nothing more than flies at a picnic to most elected Democrats and Republicans. We don't count. We're just annoying pests, too stupid to know any better and not worthy of their precious time, which is entirely focused on the never ending and narcissistic procurement of financial wealth, power and votes. While it thus far seems to be primarily Democrat politicians (and Trent Lott) who want the abomination called the Fairness Doctrine, in the end, stifled speech of any kind will eventually harm liberals as well as conservatives once any of us "protests too much." We are interfering with their self-absorbed agenda and as long as we do, our liberty is just as endangered as it was before last week. We need to survive. They need to go.

Look at any tyrannical regime. Its start was cookie-cutter in nature. Grab the guns. Suppress religion. Censor speech. Kill the dissidents. Does any part of that plan sound familiar? You don't need to dust off a history book. Pick up a newspaper while you still can and see what Vladimir Putin is doing in Russia right now, shutting down newspapers and killing dissidents. Guns and religion aren't much of a problem right there right now anyway. The pattern and formula are the same, and to a limited degree, some of that plan has already been implemented here. Only the names and faces change. And, yes, some of those faces currently speak English, and out of both sides of their mouths.

The illegal immigration issue is only the tip of the iceberg. The ugly and carnivorous plague of globalism has burrowed deep into and saturated both major political parties from within. That's the basis for all these so-called free trade treaties such as NAFTA and GATT, the NAU and our self-imposed and highly destructive trade imbalance with China. Once the globalist agenda is firmly established, our Constitution, courts, rights, liberties, institutions and laws will no longer matter. Illegal immigration translates into globalism, and more specifically, the Security Prosperity Partnership (SPP), colloquially known as the North American Union, or NAU. Even those of you who wish to burn our flag have a stake in this because if the NAU successfully becomes entrenched, that flag will no longer mean anything, if it even still exists. You dissenting pyromaniacs will have to go back to burning leaves in your back yard without a permit to get your rebellious jollies instead of burning Old Glory on Main Street. We Americans won a small battle this past week, but the war still rages on and that war neither recognizes nor cares about party or ideology. Our government is now mostly corrupt and needs to be uprooted and replaced, vigorously and expeditiously by united and determined Americans of all other lesser labels and categories. We are being duped and fleeced. They don't care about us. It's all about them. Don't just listen to what these smug, smirking sirens say, listen to how they say it. It wasn't bad enough that these wily wordsmiths often transformed "illegal immigrants" into simply "immigrants" or even "undocumented workers," now they are gradually but increasingly calling them "migrants." There is your first clue to the subtle but active common thread of the globalist agenda. This is a runaway train going downhill and we better all grab the brake pretty soon while we still can. It's all tied together. Amnesty means open borders. Open borders means North American Union. North American Union means more globalist control to eventually indentured and subservient Americans, and for those who won't shut up about that prospect, there is the Fairness Doctrine. After radio, it will be TV, then newspapers, then the very cherished Internet, which some already wish to limit by proposed taxation. Last but not least, they'll kill us off when all else fails. Sound crazy? Oh, you betcha. And not all that long ago, so did abortion and euthanasia, also now accepted methods (among some people) of disposing of weaker people deemed inconvenient. Forget about your personal beliefs. If we can so cavalierly kill off our youngest and oldest, why should we in the middle feel any false sense of security? Look at the overall pattern. Then remember the sage riddle, "How do you eat an elephant?" Answer: "One bite at a time." Make no mistake about it, that gnawing sensation you are currently feeling on your backside is very real. It is the Frankenstein that we have let our unchecked government morph into and it has come back to bite us. All party logos aside, we are all now that elephant that is being incrementally consumed by those manipulative mutineers in Washington who once theoretically worked for us.

We beat immigration reform. Never mind that two-faced, elitist, blustering blowbag from Massachusetts who threatens that it will come back again. So what if it does? When or if it does, we'll still be here. You got that, Teddy? So sit down, shut up, take a breath and have a drink. (Hey, I aim to please!) I don't heed feigned credibility in, nor do I take lessons in a myth of morality from anyone who leaves someone else in a car submerged in six feet of water to drown and then not call for help until twelve hours later after the alibi has been established and the neck brace is on in time for the photo-op to cover his pathetic political posterior. Consider the source, folks. That fat, sanctimonious snake oil-selling slob in a thousand-dollar suit is only a microcosm of the bigger problem at hand in Washington. Now we have to also beat the Fairness Doctrine, and I believe we will. The bigger menace in front of us after that is the NAU and before we get any traction on that issue, the Oval Office needs to be rounded out with a real "strict constructionist" President, and Capitol Hill needs to be re-taken by the American people like San Juan Hill was taken by the Rough Riders. Not much is riding on that whole premise, mind you, other than our country, our freedom, sovereignty, prosperity, security and quality of life as we know it, and of course, the precarious but highly unacceptable risk of gravely disappointing yours truly. There is a legendary albeit disputed quote from Isoroku Yamamoto, Admiral of the Japanese Navy, allegedly stated after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." Whether the quote was fact or fiction, the message is still both worthy and applicable to the current situation nonetheless. To the soft-soaping, steely-eyed varmints in the vipers' nest called Washington, it's high noon and there's a new marshal in town, the American people, and to paraphrase another famous quote, "We're as mad as hell and we're not going to take it any more!"

But for now my friends, let us not gloat, but rather, rejoice, and in so doing, let us all also give thanks, first to our loving Creator, then to our brilliant and insightful forefathers, and last but not least, to each other, those of us fighting the battles of law and policy here at home against internal enemies, and those fighting the battles of bombs and bullets far away from our external enemies. Let us especially remember those among the latter who sacrificed their ultimate independence so that we could live and continue on to enjoy, and hopefully, maintain our independence. We must never allow those sacrifices be in vane. Let none of us ever forget that liberty, like life, is as fleeting to hold as it is sweet to taste.

To all of my fellow American patriots, happy Independence Day and may God always continue to bless and protect the United States Of America and all virtues for which she has bled, and for which she still proudly stands.
