"The Rule Of Law," New Haven Style By Doug Wrenn June 13, 2007 An angry and defiant Mayor John "DeSocialist" DeStefano of the "New Haven For Illegal Immigrants" accused agents from Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of "breaking the rule of law," and insisting that we are a "nation of laws," or words to that effect, in a recent news interview. DeSocialist was responding to the recent federal raid upon his new protected pets, illegal immigrants, two days after approving photo ID cards for the influx of freeloading invaders, now apparently a protected species as if they were rare bird eggs. Acting on the undoubtedly credible statements of these illegal invaders who not only either entered the country illegally and/or overstayed their legal stay, but then also defied a judge's order to self-deport, DeSocialist is putting all his rare bird eggs into one basket by accepting the claim that the raiding federal law enforcement officers allegedly did not identify themselves or show a warrant during the raid. The feds deny the allegations. DeSocialist requested that Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, and Senators Joe Lieberman and Chris Dodd also write to ICE to request further investigation and to ensure that the dependents of the illegals receive taxpayer funded "social services." Supposedly, all three members of Congress are complying with DeSocialist's request, which sounds like a common type of joke to me, "How many members of Congress does it take to write a letter to a federal agency?" Hopefully, all three members saved the taxpayers some money and wrote one letter with all three signatures, but somehow, I doubt it. Furthermore, I don't want to hear that the dependents of any illegal immigrant received any social services unless that social service is a bus ticket to their native land. Why are the taxpayers on the hook for the needs of the family of some arrogant crook who not only defied our laws and sovereignty but a judge's order as well? Would he and his dependents get such consideration in the human rights panacea from which they emigrated? Who is paying for the social services of the children of the other struggling immigrants who are waiting years in line to come here legally, and are now waiting even longer because these miscreant self-serving moochers cut ahead of them in line and came here illegally? DeSocialist is no one to invoke the rule of law. His illegal immigration policy with regard to illegal immigrants is itself a defiance of the rule of law. Ditto for his personal puppet, valet and pool boy, Police Chief Francisco "Yes Sir, Boss" Ortiz, who is also engaging in illegal activity by prohibiting his officers from inquiring or investigating the status of illegal immigrants when they come upon them, in accordance with the illegal order Ortiz received and is obeying from DeSocialist. Why don't our Congressional representatives investigate that breech of "the rule of law," and particularly, DeLauro and Lieberman, who are both themselves New Haven residents? Forgive the rhetorical Pollyanna-like question, but where is the integrity, backbone and common sense here? DeLauro, Lieberman and Dodd are asking the wrong questions of the wrong people, and considering that our country is now at a time of war and even more vulnerable to terrorist attack because of our lax immigration policy, their malfeasance amounts to treason and all three of these hacks should be impeached accordingly. Meanwhile, DeSocialist and Ortiz should be on a different kind of "ice" in a federal penitentiary for aiding and abetting illegal immigration. For that matter, where is US Attorney for the District of Connecticut, Kevin O'Connor, who has an office in New Haven? Does Mr. O'Connor not read the New Haven press, or have those eight firings by Attorney General Gonzales put the fear of God into O'Connor to remain silent and look the other way for the treasonous immigration policy that has become the trademark of his higher boss, President Bush, who appointed O'Connor to his coveted federal plum position? Shame on you, too, Mr. O'Connor, or should I say, "Mr. O'Faust?" How can we make citizens and non-citizens accountable for their actions, when our government officials are not accountable for their errant behavior? Looking the other way to save your own sinecure is not the correct meaning of the phrase, "Justice is blind." Take a lesson from Edmund Burke, Mr. O'Connor, "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." But unlike most "good men," and yes, I will still give you that benefit of the doubt, at least for a while more, you don't have the luxury of doing nothing. As a law enforcement official, you are duty bound to act, and still, your silence on this matter is deafening. Wake up, Mr. O'Connor. A crime is occurring, and pretty much in front of your face. It's time to go to work. Better yet, sit down, "Mr. O'Faust," and join the rest of the indentured mute political hacks as the "Wild West" soon returns to a neighborhood near you, and eventually, everyone else as well. May you sleep well at night. I hope you are paid well to so abandon all pride and dignity and to so flagrantly prostitute yourself for a cause as lofty as politics. If Texas Ranger Frank Hamer had your kind of law enforcement work ethic, Bonnie and Clyde would likely be President and Secretary of The Treasury by now. DeSocialist and Ortiz also got their feathers ruffled when the feds pounced on New Haven's illegal fantasy island with very little previous notice, as is usual protocol. Of course not. The folks at ICE know full well the NHPD is bought and paid for by an unscrupulous mayor, his minions, and a timid, cowardly "Sheep" Of Police, who has limited roaming rights on the mayor's very short leash. Indeed, Ortiz is a pathetically political chicken, but he's hardly "free range." The feds have thus demonstrated that they are privy to the fact that the NHPD and the DeSocialist administration cannot be trusted and the integrity and surprise of the raid might well have been compromised. Meanwhile, exasperated residents in the city's Edgewood Park area have made recent headlines by forming an armed citizens bicycle patrol to thwart the many robberies, assaults and vandalism that has plagued that neighborhood with impunity, despite many requests from area residents to Ortiz and his department for more help. Now Ortiz and DeSocialist are worried that they have crated a Frankenstein. Wrong. The Frankenstein was the ignoring of pleas for help from besieged taxpayers who are tired of being frequently and violently preyed upon. When government fails, citizens have more than just the right, but the duty to act. Such as it was with the Minutemen on our nation's borders in response to a corrupt federal government with an agenda, and so it is now with "The Edgewood Park Defense Patrol." Way to go fellows! Bravo for stepping up to the plate. You don't need to wear a badge to have civic pride. Perhaps if DeSocialist and the Police Department's head Mayoral Pool Boy weren't busy shaking down Wal-Mart to stop selling guns, impeding state legislative committees with stonewalling and cover-ups for fabricated data to sway votes, bullying store owners to close earlier so they won't get robbed and towing cars from private church parking lots on Sunday mornings from alleged tax scofflaws that haven't even been given a day in court, maybe these two incompetent tyrants could have saved you some wasted time, some stolen money and some shed blood. Keep peddling those bikes and packing heat, boys. I have a tough time believing that those 10,000-15,000 already illegal immigrants in New Haven are not out there breaking any other laws. Between them and the extended families they will inevitably now bring over, your job security is sure to soon increase rapidly. Keep recruiting! Both DeSocialist and Ortiz have castigated these honorable citizen-patriots for rightly exercising their Second Amendment rights and for protecting their own neighborhood when the cops were busy placating illegal immigrants. There is clearly a disturbing pattern in New Haven. The good guys are the bad guys and the bad guys are the good guys. Hey, Mayor DeSocialist, when you're done printing ID cards for illegal immigrants and your personal puppet and valet, Ortiz, is done with his little whisk broom, brushing hizzoner off, ask him what happened to the rule of law in Edgewood Park! There is another side to this sad saga, economy. If I were a business owner, why would I want to open up shop in New Haven? As simply a contributing, taxpaying, law abiding, God fearing, decent citizen, why would I want to move and invest in the purchase of a home in New Haven? Unlike Waterbury and Stamford, New Haven, Bridgeport and Hartford have more crime in part because they have more non-resident owned property. New Haven's downtown could only prosper if is sold plywood. With little convenient or free parking, heavy traffic and throngs of loitering cretins in a city with one of the state's highest mil rates, businesses that are still open are barely making it. There is more traffic outside than inside and the traffic outside rarely moves, either by foot or wheel. The city and its police force, which can either be a Boy Scout Troop or the Gestapo by the snap of a finger, punishes the good guys and rewards the bad guys. Now the city has officially welcomed illegal immigrants, which will unofficially welcome thousands more. One of the largest property owners in the city, Yale University, enjoys a very old tax-exempt benefit, and businesses that aren't going belly-up and aren't moving down south or offshore are moving to the tranquility and prosperity of the suburbs, rightfully leaving New Haven to its much-deserved self. There is no "wrong side of the tracks" in New Haven, only an intermingling of affluent neighborhoods and dangerous slums, because when in the neighborhood of the "haves," you only need travel about a block or two, where you will likely be mugged by the alleged "have nots." From news reports alone, New Haven seems to be competing with its "Wild West" counterpart, Hartford for its number of drive-bys, and I'm not referring to take-out service at burger joints. New Haven is not far away from dispersing the remaining vestiges of its middle class and leaving only renters and out of town landlords. Liberal Democrats are not especially known for far sightedness, but what type of fortune do these self-imposed trends portend for the Elm City's future prosperity, and for that matter, survival? Many years ago, the city advertised on TV commercials and billboards with the slogan, "New Haven, Look what we've got!" That advertising should come back, not as a promotion, but as a wake up call. Indeed, New Haven, look what you've got. To learn more, press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish, or 3 for this week's interpretation of "the rule of law." DeSocialist's apathy is only surpassed by his sheer arrogance. The rule of law, like our Constitution, is pretty fundamental, and not at all a "living, breathing" ideal for purposes of convenient manipulation. It's a scary thought that he might take another shot and possibly even get a shot at being our state's next governor. An equally scary thought is a "Governor DeSocialist" appointing his personal puppet, Ortiz as Director of Homeland Security, or perhaps as Commissioner of Public Safety, and of course, "strings" will still be attached to that puppet appointment as well. There are those who sympathize with illegal immigrants and say that during raids in the job place, illegal immigrant employees are often arrested, but not their employers. That is true, and that is an injustice, but I think the real gist behind that complaint from that faction is that the illegal immigrants should not be arrested and deported. That is wrong. Whatever you believe or refuse to believe, they are breaking the law and deserve whatever justice they receive, however, in addition to the illegal immigrants, their employers should also be arrested, as per the last amnesty legislation enacted in 1986. Those laws have seldom, if ever, since been enforced, and accomplices in political and public office to a federal crime are just as guilty as those who do hiring and firing with a wink and a nod from behind a desk in any business. Mayor DeSocialist is demanding the rule of law. Fine. I say let him (and his straight-man aside-kick, puppet, Ortiz) have it. And then throw the key away! This is an issue that can and will spread increasingly beyond New Haven's municipal borders, out into the surrounding suburbs and even beyond, especially if other municipalities jump on the same bandwagon and follow the diabolical formula DeSocialist has created. Yes, believe it or not, statewide, in Connecticut, this very liberal bastion. Gee, do you think? |
