The Return Of Anarchy Among The Elms By Doug Wrenn June 11, 2007 " And I saw, and behold, a pale horse, and its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed him; and they were given power over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth." (Revelation, Chapter 6, Verse 8.) I somewhat remember the late 60's and early 70's and seeing scores of police and National Guardsmen, heavily armed and clad in full riot gear, surrounding the New Haven Green while vitriolic protesters wildly screamed and gestured behind microphones and bullhorns to throngs of like-minded and equally enraged supporters in a vast sea of more humans (and in some cases, even that was questionable) than humanity. It was an era of neighborhood riots, arson fires, the infancy of civil rights, the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Bobby Kennedy, the controversy of Viet Nam and the infamy of The Black Panthers, amidst allegations of kidnapping, torture and murder, high profile criminal court cases, student unrest, secretly wiretapped telephones and sheer apocalyptic anarchy. It appears that a romantically nostalgic Mayor John "DeSocialist" DeStefano just won't be happy until those dark days again overshadow the Elm City. At the rate he's going, he won't have to wait long. Let us rewind a bit, but not quite as far back as the 60's and 70's. The mid-80's will suffice. Since the last amnesty debacle of 1986, illegal immigration has now swelled to an alleged 12-20 million nationally, and to approximately 70,000 in Connecticut, a best as anyone can guess. A fourth to a third of state and federal jails and prisons along our border with Mexico are filled with violent offenders who illegally crossed that border. Jobs have been lost and wages reduced. Once eradicated infectious diseases are now enjoying a rebirth. Hospitals have gone belly up and closed due to a gross imbalance of uncompensated services. Illegal and deadly narcotics, as well as illegal and deadly Muslim terrorists have enjoyed a free ride on the invaders from the south like bloodsucking ticks on a dog. Gangs and gang violence have rapidly grown. The notoriously bloodthirsty and barbaric MS-13 gang, composed of mostly illegal Salvadorians, and whose gang trademarks include random savage beatings, murders, robberies and gang-rapes onto vulnerable individuals besides drug and arms dealing, now has a swollen membership of over 33,000 soldiers in 30 states and is still vastly growing. (For those of you who are "John McCain-iacs," your fearless leader of supposed "straight talk" recently voted against repealing a weak, naïve and destructive amendment in the Senate amnesty bill that would allow legal immigration status to known violent gang members who simply renounce their gang membership. Newsflash, your precious "hero" from the "Hilton" of Hanoi is now a traitor to the people of the USA! McCain's closet-liberal contorted sense of patriotism is about as fleeting as the hemorrhaging and dwindling funds in his increasingly feeble and rightfully dying presidential campaign coffers.) Laws were unenforced and illegals soon brought over their families, friends and other leeches and predators. Meanwhile, those who enter illegally are the worst of the worst, violent criminals, the uneducated, unskilled workers, those suffering from highly contagious, and in many cases, undiagnosed diseases, and few of them have any intention of assimilation. They're just here for the free fiesta. Meanwhile, those who can contribute and do wish to legally enter and assimilate are held up by years and even decades due to a broken immigration process and exacerbated by an open and unchecked faucet of the incessant flow of illegals, cutting ahead in line. Let me know when you start getting that warm and fuzzy feeling inside that liberals so often supposedly feel about these "poor, struggling, undocumented workers who just come here to work and are forced to live in the shadows." As George Will recently noted in a recent column, these very vocal and demanding illegals hardly seem to be in any shadows. Meanwhile, the public safety, public health, economic, and yes, even government entitlement resources of our country are being pushed to the breaking point by an enveloping and still growing mob, that according to the Heritage Foundation, will cost substantially much more than what it can or will pay back into the public trough. And the spigot is still wide open and the full force flow continues, not only with impunity, but also astoundingly by open invitation. Now let's fast-forward to the present day and examine some of the players, beyond the usual Latino, urban and liberal activists. Mayor DeSocialist, who recently tried to be our governor and will inevitably try again, has a documented history of ignoring, if not defying the rule of law. DeSocialist has been at the helm while the city towed and confiscated the cars of alleged tax scofflaws before granting them an opportunity to prove their innocence, tried to bully merchants into closing shop early in a convoluted response to a rash of armed hold-ups, and bullied a new Wal-Mart store from selling guns, and often delayed annual reporting of crime statistical data to the FBI. Now DeSocialist has come up with this illegal immigration panacea brainstorm of granting photo ID cards so that the estimated 10,000-15,0000 illegal immigrants who are believed to reside in this small city of 124, 512 officially counted residents, as per the 2006 Rand McNally Atlas, can receive municipal services. DeSocialist has even said that these illegals must first show identification to receive the ID cards, but the city will accept the very controversial Matricula Consular cards as proof of identification. These cards are themselves not even credible. DeSocialist has also directed his police force to not question or take any action against any illegal immigrant with regard to that immigrant's immigration status. In so doing, DeSocialist is in violation of federal law by aiding and abetting a federal crime. DeSocialist's pet puppet on a string, Police Chief Francisco "Cisco" Ortiz, remains as Chief of the NHPD despite a previous no confidence vote by the department's rank and file. Ortiz was also indirectly recently named in a June 1st op-ed in the Waterbury Republican-American as being one of the police chiefs involved in a cover-up in which false data was given to the state legislature regarding the alleged high number of instances of "straw man sales" of guns from legal gun owners to illegal gun owners. This was in regard to a law proposing that gunowners report the theft of a firearm to police within 72 hours of when "they should have known" the gun was stolen. This blatant lie (Or shall I say "perjury"?) was uncovered by a modern day "Paul Revere," Wayne Alvarez, a small arms manufacturer, rightfully suspicious of the claim of several of the state's urban and anti-gun mayors and police chiefs who testified in committee. A State Police Sergeant testified that "there is no centralized office where the these statistics (on straw buys) are reported or maintained." When contacted by the Office of Legislative Research (OLR), which was investigating the discrepancy, Ortiz, as well as his fellow police chiefs from Bridgeport and Hartford declined to respond. Since then, to the detriment of Connecticut's legal owners, the bill passed in both chambers, and Rep. William Tong (D-Stamford) praised the passing of the bill, citing the false claim of a high number of straw-man gun sales in the state to justify the passage of the bill, even after this scandal of the false data was previously and publicly revealed. Hitler's very insightful Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels was right; a lie, told often enough, is indeed eventually believed to be truth. For Ortiz's part in DeSocialist's illegal immigration conspiracy, he is even guiltier, as a police officer is statutorily duty-bound to enforce the law. Of course, others are involved in this mix as well for motives as innocuous as naiveté to as narcissistic as agenda. When the Board of Aldermen voted on ID's for illegals, not surprisingly, New Haven's lone Republican Alderman, Arlene DePino, wife of former State GOP Chair Chris DePino, was the sole dissenting vote. Bravo for your patriotism, integrity, common sense and courage, Alderwoman DePino! For the Democrats, the deceptive party of dependence and enslaving government entitlement, the entire illegal immigration issue is a matter of infusing the country with perceived supportive voters. History is replete with free governments that created their own demise by first abandoning moral principles and then by literally legislating their own bankruptcy through excessive entitlements. The Democrats, who typically only concern themselves with the short term anyway, may well win the battle but in the end, our entire nation will lose the war. Add an equally power-hungry, utterly reckless, self-absorbed and myopic governor-wannabe, John DeSocialist to that less-than-elite group. Rest assured that in his eyes, the 2006 election may be over, but the fight is not, and 2010 is still on the horizon. For divisive liberal activists suffering from acute tunnel vision, like Hartford Catholic Archdiocese Auxiliary Bishop Peter Rosazza and Rev. James Manship, Pastor of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, in the city's predominantly Hispanic Fair Haven neighborhood, I seriously wonder why these alleged men of the cloth are so consumed with breaking the rule of law in defiance to St. Paul's advice to obey government officials in Romans, Chapter 13, and thus turning a blind eye to Mexico, which treats even poorer illegal immigrants from neighboring Guatemala far worse than the US treats any Mexican illegal immigrant here. Mexico hunts down their illegals like hounds chasing a rabbit with a mandatory three-year incarceration for a felony. For that matter, the Guatemalans who do make it into Mexico have a much tougher time as that border is solidly enforced by Mexican Army troops, when they're not busy shooting at our Border Patrol Agents and running interference for their errant and emigrating countrymen further north. These Roman collar wearing, knee-jerk, liberal do-gooders of anti-American agenda don't give a damn, but rather, a damnation to the US for "allowing" business owners to supposedly exploit illegal immigrant workers while remaining hypocritically silent on the reasons why so much of the populace of their cherished Lain America so desperately wants to get out, rather than to stay in. A recent article in the National Catholic Register mentioned that the Church does have a self-serving interest in illegal immigration, as many Church lay-workers do come from abroad into the US. The presumed representation of a faith in the wrong hands, such as it is by these holy hypocrites, can be as easily and destructively abused as a gun or even a car. The Catholic Church, like any other entity recruits its members from that grossly flawed personnel pool known as the human race, and thus has no market cornered on objectivity, or for that matter, integrity. Like their fellow liberals, neither Rosazza nor Manship offers any explanation nor demonstrates any apparent concern about the long term catastrophic effect their naive and suicidal crusade will have on the already upset and teetering applecart that so precariously balances our nation's survival. Facts are stubborn things and like it or not, there is sound reason why immigration laws exist, to the extent that any of them are enforced. For those who like to manipulatively play both sides of the coin in this contentious debate, the very same admittedly broken immigration system that allegedly allows unscrupulous business owners to exploit their illegal immigrant employees also looks the other way when those unscrupulous employers hire those same illegal employees in the first place. While I do not at all justify or condone the exploitation of anyone, those who knowingly break the law and associate with others who break the law have about as much reasonable expectation of business ethics as those who conduct business with drug dealers and prostitutes. Then of course, there is always the option of simply going back home. That invisible gate on that porous border along the Rio Grande River swings as easily toward the south as it does to the north. Don't let it smack your delicate little illegal and entitled backside on the way out! DeSocialist's retort to his sanctuary policy is to "blame Congress and the President" for our current illegal immigration debacle. That's a cop-out, "Comrade" DeSocialist. When a burglar breaks into your home, you point your gun at him. You don't hand him your gun. Enabling lawbreakers is not a solution to their lawbreaking. If you are so blatantly inept at addressing the immigration problem in your city, then try having a sit-down over a couple cold Coronas with a real leader like Mayor Mark Boughton of Danbury, or perhaps even Hazelton, PA Mayor Louis Barletta, and for our sake, please stop considering ruining our state when you can't even run your own city. (Post script to the Connecticut Republican Party: How about a "Draft Mark Boughton For Governor" Campaign in 2010?) DeSocialist also denies that his policy will encourage more illegal immigration into the city. First of all, how does he know, considering that the declawed and defanged Boy Scout troop that he calls a police force cannot even approach these invaders on the subject? Second, he's flat out wrong. Our failed immigration policy of 1986 has already proven that. Furthermore, I have had occasions to work with federal immigration agents in the past. Many years ago, one agent told me that even those who cannot speak English can say "Connecticut," and they come here easily and zealously because of our close proximity to New York City and because of our well-known and very liberal welfare and entitlement programs. Chalk another one up for the other socialists under the big tarnished dome in Hartford. When more illegals swarm to New Haven, and yes, they will, the surrounding suburbs will also be increasingly besieged as well. Memo to Hamden, West Haven, North Haven, East Haven, Woodbridge, etc.: There goes the neighborhood. As that massive influx of invaders grows, expect that sprawl of illegals and their future extended families to expand throughout the state and beyond. Another excuse for the ID program is that it is for all Elm City residents. Another newsflash, Need an ID? It's called the Department of Motor Vehicles, and yes, even for non-drivers. The cost is only ten bucks, but in order to obtain the ID, you must first be a legal citizen and actually already have genuine supporting identification. I guess that's the rub that is the catalyst for this camouflaged amnesty program. If the city of New Haven, with one of the state's highest municipal mil rates, is going to continue it's own illegal but sovereign foreign policy, may I suggest that it further add to the taxpayer's burden by adding it's own State Department to its already bloated municipal bureaucracy? (Don't laugh. This little city with big ambitions is already halfway there in furthering its own municipal version of foreign policy. It already has a "Peace Commission"!) DeSocialist also recently claimed that illegals only come here to work. If so, then did those 1,500 allegedly "working" protesters on a "work" day this past week all have some holiday that the rest of us schmucks, who were otherwise diligently toiling at our jobs, did not know about? That protest, of course came a day or two after New Haven made national news by legislating its ID program. DeSocialist, no friend of law enforcement, blamed "ICE" (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) for retaliating against the city. Honestly, if ICE did retaliate, I wouldn't blame it. Where there is crime, you thwart it, especially where that crime is in your face, but such was not the case. New Haven needs to be made an example, but federal raids aren't planned by a whim and on the back of a matchbook, and if DeSocialist had consulted with his Chief Of Police and personal puppet, valet and pool-boy, Ortiz, he would have known that. Another bogus "straw-claim." Apparently, a protest can be organized much quicker than a federal raid. DeSocialist's arrogant and defiant minions proved that, but then again, many of them, unlike the rest of us were hardly at all encumbered by such petty obstacles like work. So much for that popular "They are all hard-working people" myth. This issue involves more than just jobs for the internationally indigent. It's about importing even more freeloaders to mooch off the public dole. Offer it (for free) and they will come. For those who decried the federal action and cited parents being taken away from their children, that is the fault of the lawbreaking parents, not the feds who for once, are actually enforcing otherwise neglected but still legitimate federal laws. If separating parents from children was a legitimate argument to look the other way, then laws of immigration would merely be the tip of the iceberg in terms of laws broken. Utopia is only a fantasy-like presence of mind, not a cast-in-stone sovereign sanctuary. I do feel sorry for the helpless and innocent children of these illegal immigrants, but the fact of the matter is their parents, who were so concerned about their kids when they were caught and arrested (and soon hopefully deported) didn't think twice about them when they knowingly broke the law. I have no desire to separate parents from their children. By all means, ship them all back home together on "the family plan." Adios! As both summer temperatures and immigrant tempers rise in this year and years to come, and a foolish John DeStefano and his cronies continue to fuel a wild fire which may know no suppressant, it may be wise to reflect upon the turbulent 60's and the Elm City's own chapter during that historical firestorm, if not for reasons of learning from history, then at least to brace ourselves for the coming of that which we have unleashed onto ourselves. In both English and Spanish, "no" is both spelled and pronounced the same, but that word is already wasted on the army of Frankensteins that have been created and are being even further cultivated. Abusers of entitlement don't know the term "thank you" in any language. All they instinctively know and invoke is "more," and now that this massive and powerful force has been unleashed, what do we do when there is simply is no "more" at all to give? How do you feed and placate a massive and carnivorous monster that is still hungry when you run out of food? I hope I am no longer around when that day comes, which I believe will sadly be sooner, rather than later, but if I am, I wonder what all these fraudulent Bible-thumpers and thinly veiled America-dumpers will have to say for themselves then? I can feasibly see a resurrection of long hot, raucous, and even violent, destructive summers to return to New Haven, now "New Illegal Immigrant Haven," and the city once more well known more for its bucolic plethora of elm trees, The Ivy League's Yale University and cotton gin inventor Eli Whitney will be in the center (and expanding) ring of a grandiose show of shows that will make both P.T. Barnum and Cecil B. DeMille turn mint green with envy and furiously roll in their respective graves. Whomever the promulgators of today's masked but foisted, Faustian folly and abhorrently anarchistic agenda may blame and whatever else they may say then, for whatever it may or may not be worth, for sure, Bobby Seale, if he is also still around, will undoubtedly be proud. |
