"Comprehensive"? Throw Out The Illegals And Vote Out The Incompetents! Now, That's "Comprehensive"! By Doug Wrenn May 22, 2007 To paraphrase the famous line from the movie, "Network," I already have been "mad as Hell" and I already stopped "taking it" long ago. But I feel like I do when I kick a tire on my car because the battery is dead. I feel better, but I'm still not going anywhere. Sometimes I feel like a man standing on a beach, yelling at the ocean. I can hear my words loudly, but the powerful waves continue to break ashore. I know I'm not really alone. I'm like one of many starfish on the beach. (No, I won't use that old story that is now more of a cliché.) Our problem isn't numbers. Our problem is a lack of unity. It's time all us starfish got into a huddle and planned our next play in this event that is no game. Our country is at stake here. On May 17th, I realized it more fully than ever before, when the news reported that illegal immigrants scored a trifecta before my very eyes, simultaneously at the federal, state and local level, or, more appropriately, and to paraphrase the title of another famous movie, with "the fed, the bad, and the ugly." The Fed: The United States Of Secrecy Well, once a few more Democrats moved in to Capitol Hill, The Traitor In Chief finally got what he always wanted: amnesty for illegal immigrants. The hashed out deal among some members of Congress behind closed doors is more of a poison pill than a ludicrous bill. And shame on normally conservative and formerly anti-illegal immigration Senator Jon Kyl, Republican of the besieged state of Arizona, who was one of the turncoats in this anti-American crusade. Who got to you and why, Senator Kyl? A fact sheet on a White House web site link, www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/immigration/, lists the perks and proposed tepid enforcement. Like a rose, it's amnesty by any other name. The plan calls for fines, probation, illegals coming out of the shadows and more such gobbledygook. It calls for employer verification and counterfeit-proof ID. Ask any underage college student in any bar on a Friday or Saturday night how he obtained his "counterfeit-proof ID" from his state DMV. Every few years, the formats of licenses change and shortly thereafter, some young entrepreneur figures how to beat the system by the weekend. And why should illegal immigrants pay fines, even if they could afford to pay them? Why should they have to put up with "probation" or going back to their country to re-apply? Who cares if they can bring over family members? They can still stay here for nothing, still bring over family members, and still vote, obtain driver licenses, healthcare and tuition assistance in some states by continuing to do what they have been doing and without all the hassle. The carrot and stick technique doesn't work when the intended recipient is already holding a carrot and has nothing to fear from the stick. Who are we kidding? Whether it's McCain/Feingold, Kennedy/McCain, campaign finance reform, or comprehensive immigration reform, we should all know by now to repulse any legislation with the words "McCain" or "reform" attached to it. And why the secret meetings? What about the old adage that "sunlight is the best disinfectant"? Secrecy is supposed to happen in the creepy, covert halls of CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, not in the halls of Congress, the house of the American people, in Washington, D.C. What these covert Congressmen did was akin to the small child who steals a cookie from the jar and then tells his mother after the pleasurable but knowingly sneaky deed is already done. But the hook is we don't pay our children to represent our national interests. Connect the dots. This stench smacks of North American Union (NAU) for globalists, business interests desiring cheap labor for Republicans, and more voters, be they legal or illegal, for the Democrats. And as usual, follow the money. Where money wasn't involved, agenda probably was. Those halls of Congress aren't hallowed; their shallow. And the lobby is full of lobbyists, armed with brief cases and not so brief sealed envelopes. The greedy, power-hungry, globalist and cowardly conglomeration of "Republicrats," concerned only about their sinecures and backsides have done it to us again and the country, and countless scores of legal immigrants, who waited and languished for long periods of time to become citizens the right way, be damned. As far as the claims of tough enforcement, just look back at the last amnesty of 1986. Sleazy employers need not worry. And that short span of a fence we have so far, with apparently no real appropriations or real desire to build the rest, isn't really a wall. It's just a big speedbump. Just the other day, I heard a demographer on the radio saying that the less education and wealth people have, the more children they have. Ponder that little gem as a backdrop, juxtaposed against the fact that for the most part, the estimated 12-20 million or so illegal immigrants don't exactly represent the best and the brightest of their former homeland. And now President "Compassionate Conservative" wants them to bring their families over with impunity as well as immunity. I don't understand it. Did I suddenly get turned around, or is my country now in high-speed reverse? The Bad: Business As Usual In "The Constitution (Be Damned) State" State government in Connecticut has two styles: oppressive and loopy. Just in the past few weeks, our legislators are now fighting among themselves to deny our motorists a much needed 25-cent per gallon tax break on gasoline for the summer months during the tourism peak. I think right now, only California has higher gas prices than Connecticut. In the same period of time, the state's only four Catholic hospitals have been mandated to offer the "Plan B" abortion pill to ovulating rape victims, despite the fact that these same four Catholic hospitals are located in the cities that also are home to secular hospitals, and despite the fact that a rape victim has 72 hours to take the Plan B pill, which is also now available in any pharmacy without a prescription. While native born taxpayers and Catholics in the Nutmeg State (emphasis on "Nut") may be viewed as red-haired step-children by our liberal, loopy, lofty, all-knowing wing-nut Democrat dominated General Assembly and our equally liberal "RINO" back-stabbing, flip-flopping Republican Governor, illegal immigrants are worthy of the red carpet treatment. In secrecy akin to that of our equally morally and ethically bankrupt Congress, the Connecticut State House of "Reprehensibles" passed a bill that was considered dead and all but forgotten. The House voted to allow in-state resident tuition rates for illegal immigrants at Connecticut state universities. Connecticut's reputation of affluence is exaggerated. Our rich are very rich, but so rich that this small minority largely skews the demographics of the vast majority of the state. Meanwhile, our urban poor are among the poorest in the country and the rest of the state, its ever-shrinking middle class, is struggling to survive in a state that ranks on the short list for the highest cost of living and highest taxation. Front lawns in this state are now adorned with as many "For Sale" signs as they are dandelions. The only difference is the dandelions disappear in the autumn. So for the working schmuck of Connecticut, who comprises most of Connecticut, just like in every other state, his sweat, blood and tears to educate his children take a back seat to the children of illegal immigrants. The logic? Our legislators say they do not wish to punish the children of illegal immigrants for the (unaddressed) crimes of their parents. No one has yet been able to satisfactorily explain to me, however, why the children of our state's legal citizens cannot be rewarded because their parents did not commit any crimes, addressed or otherwise. Hopefully, as Connecticut's taxpayers, faithful and law-abiding citizens soon become a minority, perhaps we can later collect on some government subsidized perks of our own by dubbing ourselves victims in our new and involuntary minority status. We need to keep our eye on the ball and remember that the same state that is called home by a famous actor named "Paul Newman" is the same state that is currently incarcerating an infamous murderer, nicknamed, "The Woodchipper." The Ugly: "New Haven" (For New Crooks) On Illegal Immigration Thursday, the "tri" of the trifecta came when a finance committee of the Board of Aldermen for city of New Haven agreed upon the issuance of municipal photo ID cards for known illegal immigrants. Whether officially or unofficially, New Haven has become a sanctuary city, thanks to the city's Democrat Mayor and recent gubernatorial candidate, John "DeSocialist" DeStefano, and his personal puppet and official lapdog, Police Chief Francisco Ortiz (I'm not sure, but I think he's a Chihuahua.). New Haven cops have been given orders to have a hands off policy regarding illegal immigrants. (Tour many of New Haven's neighborhoods and streets, preferably with an armored Humvee, and you will find that illegal immigration is not the only issue that the cops seem to have a hands off policy for!) This is the same New Haven that bullied a Wal-Mart store from selling guns, and the same New Haven that unconstitutionally tows and confiscates the cars from either public or private property of "jons" patronizing prostitutes, as well as the cars of those who owe back taxes before any of these accused even go to court, or are proven guilty. This is also the same New Haven that told local merchants and small business owners to close up early, in response to a rash of robberies. This is the same New Haven in which the cops gave this current chief a "no confidence" vote, yet he remains in his position. For those on the right side of the law, New Haven is The Wild West, despite it being home to the very prestigious Yale University, with all its ivy covered walls, preppy sweaters, radically liberal anti-American bohemians and cherished tax-free status. For illegal immigrants, New Haven is now their "new haven." The Yale Law School's clinic has already volunteered to defend the Elm City if it receives any challenges to New Haven's version of the infamous Matricula Consular card. These cards make it easier for illegals to open bank accounts, buy goods, use municipal services, such as parking meters, libraries, beaches, etc.. Besides the liberal city government and Yale, illegals in New Haven enjoy much support from other enablers of crime, including the local Catholic Church, at the parish and Diocesan level. Auxiliary Bishop Peter Rosazza of the Hartford Archdiocese has been very active in supporting illegal immigrants at recent rallies. In the Diocesan newspaper, The Catholic Transcript, the very openly liberal Rosazza also writes a regular column, in Spanish. According to a recent New Haven Register article, Rev. James Manship, pastor of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, in the city's predominantly Hispanic Fair Haven neighborhood, led a march of 100 "immigrant" (status not specified) parishioners from his church to city hall in protest to support these ID cards. The redundantly explained motivation by many for this movement is that illegal immigrants are "in the shadows" and thus are easy targets of crime, because they are afraid to deposit their money into a bank or call the police when victimized because of their illegal status. Here's an idea: never mind the ID cards. Arrest and then deport these illegals. Then they won't need to be in their self-imposed "shadows" any longer. Problem solved. Adios, banditos! Then we can save money and send those cameras and film back to Wal-Mart. I think they go to Aisle 7, where the guns, bullets and last vestiges of our endangered Second Amendment rights used to be. Actions speak louder than words. If illegal immigrants were truly honorable, worthy of amnesty, and sincerely desired to be US citizens beyond selfish motives, they wouldn't be illegal immigrants in the first place. Granting amnesty, as well as perks, privileges and entitlements that many US citizens cannot get, while being subsidized by US tax dollars, and offering Spanish translation for everything is just more of a wasted and inane fantasy of a panacea that will and should never come true. Such tactics will only motivate these arrogant, ungrateful, self-centered leeches toward more arrogance and more bold and undeserved demands, and not toward (American) civic pride, assimilation or contribution. And with such amnesty, what motive is there in the future for prospective legal immigrants to be legal? Granting amnesty to illegal immigrants is like suddenly receiving an inheritance from a recently deceased rich uncle. You suddenly have more "friends" than you want. Naturalization, much like civic pride, breeds citizens. Amnesty, much like dead meat, only draws pests. "What Now, Batman?" Talk to any athlete worth his salt and he will tell you unequivocally that you need to get your mind right and focused before you can even begin to think about playing. Likewise, we need to get our minds right before we can even ever begin to solve this consuming crisis. The GOP currently has its won version of "The Three Stooges," John, Mitt and Rudy as its alleged "top tier." That top tier consists of three liberals, two of whom need a compass, a roadmap and global positioning to remember what their stances on issues are this week. These worthless hacks are "top tier" because they are media darlings and have money-machines, not because the conservative base endorses them. Until we ham and eggers in the cheap seats start making our voices heard above the media elitists and the fat cats, we will lose our far more qualified back tier candidates in 2008 just like we did in 2000, and look what that brought us! Five or six in the other hand is still worth more than another "Bush"! Who is or is not "top tier" should be dictated by Ma and Pa Kettle in the Heartland, not the pretty boys of the 11:00 news or the K-Street gurus with padded envelopes and used car salesman smiles. Once we skim the scum from the cream, we should connect some dots. Some issues are intertwined. No candidate should be for the war in Iraq if he is for open borders and/or immigration amnesty, and no candidate should favor tougher immigration "reform" if he favors the North American Union. If you want to know who is a phony, lying hypocrite, just listen while they talk. Then when they're done digging, bury them with their shovel and move on to the next candidate. We're not talking about lollipops for babies here. This issue transcends many avenues of public health and safety, national security and sovereignty, economic stability, and on the list goes. If Bush ever said one statement without classically tripping over his tongue, it's when he said that any country not for us is against us. Ditto for our elected leaders. This issue is the deal-breaker. If they don't measure up, give them their walking papers. That also means picking up a newspaper once in a while, beyond the sports page to first know what is going on. More Americans right now can name the "American Idol" but not their American President. You have a choice: pay attention or pay the piper. And don't settle for the lesser of two evils. That's still evil. Pressure your local political town, state and national committees. Prune off the bums before they even sprout on the vine. Bad politicians are like taxes. Nip them in the bud or you're stuck with them for life. The influence of money and gerrymandering of political districts makes the security of incumbency all but engraved in stone now. And think outside the box. If the two major political parties can't cut the mustard, then look to third parties and independents. Yes, Virginia, there is life beyond the Democrat and Republican parties.
