Illegal and 18? Take The Oath Or Say, "Adios." Problem Solved. By Doug Wrenn February 16, 2007 OK, let me see if I have this straight. In the front-page article, "Illegals Seek Tuition Break," by Randy James in the February 14th edition of the Waterbury Republican American, an 18-year-old adult woman is an illegal immigrant. She was brought here from Mexico by her parents when she was three years old. The (New Haven) Wilbur Cross High School senior isn't whining because she was denied an education here, or because she can't go to college here. She's whining because college will cost her more. And as those corny, late night TV commercials are known for saying, "But wait, there's more!" She wants to major in "Criminal Justice." Beautiful. Very commendable. Here's a little suggestion for you, Honey: advance that law enforcement resume by arresting and deporting yourself, forthwith. Then you can pursue your career interests with the Mexican "Federales." Problem solved. And also try obeying the law before you try enforcing the law. The revised version of that commercial should probably be, "And wait again. There's even more yet!" The adult, illegal cop-wannabe traveled up to the other great liberal bastion, the one with the big tarnished dome, to make her case as if she actually has one. She was joined there by other protesters, presumably including many other illegals, rallying in support of a bill that would remedy their problem and give us legal citizens a bigger problem. Under the dome, one of the tarnishers, Rep. Felipe "I forgot what country I'm in" Reinoso, a Hartford Democrat (Before "Tax-ocrat" Jodi "Pollyanna" Rell became governor, it was assumed that all liberals with loopy ideas and socialist agendas were Democrats, but now we have to specify), is a sponsor of a proposal that would allow illegal immigrants to qualify for cheaper "in-state," as opposed to the much higher "out of state" tuition rate at state colleges. If you consider the mind-boggling notion that illegal immigrants "should-be-out-of-state," then the current policy isn't much of a stretch. Illegal immigrants (Quick, grab the tissues!) do not qualify for the in-state tuition assistance or federal education grants. Gosh, golly, gee whiz. And we have a liberal "compassionate conservative" president who speaks Spanish, too! (Hopefully he speaks Spanish better than he does English!) I suppose Rep. Reinoso, a Tammany Hall Graduate of Dishonors with a major in shell games, hasn't considered that some native born Nutmeggers will be deprived of state college admissions because he has just extended the Charter Oak Bridge over the Rio Grande River. I hope that bridge expansion has two lanes to accommodate both the state assistance-seeking predators coming in and the homegrown but scorned education and jobseekers going out. Both lanes should also be well signed on either side with a directional arrow, one side designated "Leech Feast" and the other side, "Brain Drain." Go ahead. Tell me more about our business climate, economy, job growth, job retention and keeping college grads in state, Rep. Reinoso. Newsflash, Representative, statewide economic catastrophe doesn't care what language its victims speak. It's an equal-opportunity oppressor, kind of like you. Of course, no one, including Rep. Reinoso, seems to know what the price tag on this feel-good, knee-jerk boondoggle is, either, but why break with long established legislative history of gross apathy and ineptitude now? Our legislators are like the seafood restaurant patron who chooses lobster off the menu, right next to where it says, "Market Price," and just waits for the surprise when the check comes. The only problem is, we are paying the check when it comes as Rep. Reinoso, like his cronies, simply proclaims, "Let them eat cake," as the benevolent spendthrift of our sweat-induced and limited earnings contently sits, spends, chews, belches, wipes melted butter off his chin and wonders how he still mysteriously managed to stain his tie under that ridiculous-looking lobster bib that was supposed to protect it. Grab Toto, and close the door, Dorothy. Oz is now closed and there is no wizard. Don't forget to shut the lights off on the way out. Fifteen years of receiving undeserved entitlement has warped the logic of this now adult woman's mind. She opined, "We're all equal." That is true. We are all equal. Our Declaration of Independence only articulates what God has intended. All men (and yes, all you ladies, too) are equal, but we are also all equally responsible. (Oops, there I go being conservative again!) When asked to whom citizens should pay taxes or homage, Jesus (the one who pronounces His name with a "J" and not an "H") sagely replied, "Give to God what is God's and to Caesar what is Caesar's." The fact that this woman collected 15 years of perks, including an education on the taxpayer's dime, despite her illegal status is a testament to either the flowing compassion or outright stupidity of the People's Socialist Republic Of Corrupticut, but the free ride should end here and now. Yes, we are all equal, but we also have a duty to obey the law. Also, like many other entitlement recipients, for this child, steeped in liberal Connecticut (and New Haven's) socialism for most of her life, there is never any such thing as "enough," only "more," and she knows, or doesn't want to know any other way. I remember speaking with an immigration agent from what was then Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS), now Immigrations, and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and he told me back then, about 20 years ago, that illegal immigrants who can't even speak English can say "Connecticut," and they all want to specifically come here for the free and ample buffet of government entitlement goodies because our state is so well known for our liberal entitlements among immigrants, and especially of the illegal variety. And now in New Haven, Mayor and Governor-wannabe John "DeSocialist," and his personal little armed lap dog, Police Chief Francisco "Yes Sir, Boss" Ortiz have recently and publicly announced their hands-off policy on illegal immigrants and now even seek to give them ID cards so they can enjoy the free, taxpayer subsidized perks and bennies of the great Socialist Wink And Nod Panacea, too. So when you put all the pieces altogether, this is the environment we created or allowed, so why wouldn't this woman feel she has a birthright to what she is legally stealing on our dime? "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment." (Romans, Chapter 13, verses 1-3.) Another little gem of advice, Sweetheart, don't publicly preach to legal citizens about "equality" when they are paying for your unwanted, criminal intrusion and sponging of our state resources. This isn't rocket science, so stop the "Woe is me" charade, "Little Bo Perk." In this country, you're a citizen, a guest or a trespasser, and I'm being nice. Benjamin Franklin, someone you undoubtedly did not learn about in Wilbur Cross High School, said that guests, like fish, stink after three days. I would only add that trespassers stink much worse and much sooner. Don't you get it, "Little Miss Hand Out"? You broke the law. How's your English? Which part of the word "illegal" do you not comprende? "Illegal" means "unlawful." It is not a descriptive phrase for a sick bird. You better pay attention to such pesky little details if you intend to do study the law and its enforcement (on everybody else) as a career endeavor. This country does not owe prosperity to its citizens; only the opportunity for prosperity, and you're not even a citizen. Yes, OK, so you were three when you came here and had no control over that, granted, but now you are an educated adult, so what is your excuse now? Become a citizen or scat! And by your twisted logic regarding equality, what about all the people, including many also from Mexico, who went through all the dog and pony show and became legal American citizens? Just who the heck in the name of the Have-It-All-Hacienda do you think you are, lady? Are those people any less "equal" than you? I hear the same whiney argument from blacks, bellowing on about slavery. The last slave died decades ago. There is not a single living black today who was born a slave, and some of them have done quite well in this country in which their ancestors were brought against their will. For all their complaining, I don't see any of them leaving either. It never ceases to amaze me that all the people who bash our country while incessantly holding a hand out never turn that hand around to twist a door know and skedaddle. Why do you suppose we only need the Border Patrol to stop intruders like you from only entering our country, hmm? Gee, maybe the mean, evil, greedy US of A isn't quite so bad after all. Our adult illegal immigrant damsel in so-called distress should return home to Mexico and plead her case for freebies there. Both she and we know better. Rep. Reinoso bellyached that "There is no group as disenfranchised as undocumented students." Rep. Reinoso could be President someday as he seems to have trouble grasping English, too. Enough of the trendy politically correct psychobabble already. When a fast food restaurant goes out of business, it is "disenfranchised." You mean discriminated against, and that phrase no longer has any traction, because divisive race-baiters and America-bashers like you over-used and abused the term, which is why you and some of your fellow "progressives" from the University of Euphoric Euphemisms instead now spew new, softer and more creative drivel like "disenfranchised." Also, students are not "undocumented." Mongrel dogs without a pedigree are undocumented. That means they have no papers. The students you are referring to, Rep. Reinoso, are criminals, criminals who have no business even being here, never mind being students here. It's bad enough that you socialists want to give felons the right to vote, now you want to give illegal immigrants a tax-subsidized education, too? That would normally only be a joke, but considering we have a clueless Pollyanna-like governor who seems to struggle with arithmetic as much as Dubya does with grammar, and wants to drastically increase the income tax despite our current surplus, that's an abominable outrage. Rep. Reinoso, you are an abysmal disgrace as a legislator. "Law-makers" must first obey "the law," not ignore or flagrantly usurp it to gain cheap, expedient favor with the minority community, as if all members of that community even share your pathetic beggar/master government-dependence mindset. How dare you? You should be incarcerated instead of inaugurated. As a (legal) citizen, I demand you that resign from your trusted office! If enough people in the leadership of this state's so-called "ethical" government, another Shakespearean tragedy, possessed any semblance of guts, decency and integrity you would be investigated for proposing this flagrant violation of law which you seek to make law. It is the very ilk like you who make sure that the big dome under which you hide, scheme and make deals to feather your soiled nest never again gleams triumphantly and proudly in the sun. You don't belong in public office. You belong in handcuffs, assuming that the slime you ooze would not make them slip off. The typical liberal mindset is to wallow in the past and ignore the present and/or future. Both Attorney General "Slick Dick" Blumenthal and a cousin of the illegal adult cop-wannabe cited that many illegals are supposedly paying for mistakes they didn't make and had no choice in being brought to the US as children. Boo-hoo. Yes, now you get it. You are paying for your mistakes, and not nearly enough. Yes, you were brought here as children, you couldn't help it (then) and no, that was not your fault, but if you are adults now, what are you doing about it now? Becoming citizens? No. Leaving? No. Just whining and asking for more government handouts, and the law, our country, its people, and for that matter, some of your people be damned. Yes, I know. "I want, I need, it's not fair, me, mine, give me, give me more, give me now, just because, wah, wah, wah…!" OK. I take it back. Maybe you haven't grown up. You have lots of company in that regard. In a perfect world, and this state certainly isn't one, that would be the real choice; go back to where you came from once you become an adult, or become a ward of the government and receive free hand-outs for several years. However, that second option should not be administered by the Department of Education, but rather, by the Department of Correction. Be extra nice and maybe you can even bum a free cigarette off the nice C/O's (Correction Officers) once in a while. When you're ready to stop being a leech and start becoming a citizen, and one who brings something to the table besides a fork, knife, appetite and an exaggerated tale of woe, give us a holler. Then we'll gladly exclaim, "Welcome to America." Otherwise, get out of our country, out of our pockets and adios. |
