THE CROW'S NEST: We have much to be Thankful for… By Tom Evers November 28, 2002 Thanksgiving is one of those interesting holidays. It is truly the basis for the kick off of the Christmas Season. We get ads, ads, and more ads and commercials up the kazoo…God bless capitalism. We get subjected to our relatives…God bless short stays, aspirin, and alcohol by the liter. But honestly…let's look at what we must be thankful for… · We are thankful that the Democrats are such silly opponents in this day and age…with a haphazard leader named McAuliffe at the DNC and Tom Daschle leading in the U.S. Senate. · We are thankful that George W. Bush is in the White House, Donald Rumsfeld is our Secretary of Defense, and Dick Cheney is Dick Cheney. · We are thankful that Fox News exists so we can get an honest and realistic view of what's going on in our hemisphere and the world around us - permitting the general public to make their own opinions without being subjected to the usual liberal, anti-American bias that is proliferated by other so-called news sources · We are thankful that the 2002 elections showed that despite negative campaigning by liberal forces, that Americans were able to see through the rhetoric and return the U.S. Senate to Republican control, reinstate the Republican majority in the House, and provide Republicans with control of the majority of state legislatures for the first time since the Eisenhower administration. · In Connecticut, we are thankful that Connecticut is sending more Republicans (Shays, Johnson, and Simmons) to the House of Representative to off-set the mindless votes of Connecticut's mindless liberals: Rosa DeLauro and Johnny Larson · We are thankful that liberalism is failing on Connecticut college campuses, and a return to normalcy is prevalent. Today's students are marching in solidarity with President Bush and have taken offense to the "beads and sandals" approach of left-wing professors and liberal groups such as "students for peace" which represent the very worst in American society…short on comprehension and common sense. · We are thankful for British allies, who despite pressure from weak-minded fools on their own continent stand firm with us in our fight against terrorism and foes of liberty. We are thankful that they have the fortitude to tell phony lovers of democracy in Europe to get lost. · We are thankful that the Canadian Government is as pathetic as it is. If anyone had a question as to which Nation-state in North American actually had a real sense of moral authority, than they will comprehend that the question is pretty much resolved. With an irrelevant clown as a leader, Canada stands alone as a mere image of what it once was in the 1980s - which even then was only "somewhat respectable". Canada is Mexico's saving grace. · We are thankful that NATO has expanded to include seven new quasi-democratic, former Warsaw Pact countries. We are thankful that President Ronald Reagan's vision of a democratic Eastern Europe continues to grow by leaps and bounds, and that Russia's opposition is weak and pointless. · We are thankful that UN Leader Kofi Annan is as incompetent as he is, unable to detract nations from the current reality with his own warped vision of the world, and that the United States Government under President Bush has shown such fantastic leadership in the war against terrorism, and in particular, against Iraq and the axis of evil. · We are thankful that we live in a country that is a democratic republic, where freedom is cherished, God is loved, and each person counts as an individual. · We are thankful that we will spend hours with unnerving relatives, eating dry turkey and stuffing, watching silly parades and football games, while others sit in desert huts under tyrannical governments, unable to fathom an inkling of what it is to be free, fed and happy. Happy Thanksgiving! |
