THE CROW'S NEST

West Hartford Taxpayers Association

to seek second referendum

By Tom Evers

June 26, 2004

Last night the West Hartford Taxpayers Association voted to force a new referendum on the West Hartford Town Budget. It's apparent that West Hartford residents are the ones that disagree with the minority viewpoint on the Council that high taxes are a good idea for West Hartford.

Aside from seeking a 2% reduction, the focus of the Taxpayers Association will be to urge the Council to reduce spending and make real cuts to programs. This will be a real challenge as both Republicans and Democrats appear stagnant in their thinking; they have already come out in unison by attacking WHTAs leader Phil Meister by declaring that the Council doesn't share Phil Meister's view of West Hartford.

Brushing off Harris' small-minded comments, Meister is set to regroup with interested residents to seek the necessary number of signatures to initiate the referendum.

Obviously, there's much more to come! Stay Tuned!
