WHY CLINTON II SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN

By Tim Siggia

August 20, 2007

"I, ___________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will, to the best of my ability, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help me God."

This is the solemn oath taken by all presidents upon assumption of the world's most powerful office. It is, or rather, should not be, one taken lightly. Unfortunately, it has been in the past, and threatens in the future to not only be taken lightly but outright betrayed -- by the very same people who did it the first time.

William Jefferson Clinton took that oath upon assumption of the presidency in January of 1993, and then immediately started looking for ways to circumvent that very same document he had sworn to protect and defend. How did he do this? Simple. The Constitution clearly outlines the various branches of government, including the executive branch, which consists of the president and vice president of the United States. The Constitution makes no mention of a co-president. Yet Hillary RODHAM Clinton, elected by nobody, assumed that heretofore nonexistent office for herself, to the point of moving her office into the west wing of the White House and making the declaration, on at least one occasion, of herself and her husband, "We are the president!" As the illegitimate and unelected co-president, Hillary RODHAM Clinton, a.k.a. Her Royal Most Imperial Majesty in this column, injected herself into virtually every aspect of her husband's presidency, to the point of trying to implement a budget-busting program of socialized medicine that was unasked for and unwanted by the vast majority of Americans. The American people responded in 1994 by voting Democrats out of office in large measure, making for Republican majorities in both houses of Congress. Bill Clinton got the message, and Hillary was duly reined in. Yet, in too many aspects, the Clinton presidency remained an unconstitutional co-presidency. This is history, and we cannot change it. However, we need not repeat it, and if the voters ignore the lessons of history, our Constitution will once again be threatened by an ambitious power team (Bill and Hillary Clinton) that has demonstrated in the past that it will stop at nothing to get what it wants -- and it wants our White House, and with it, dominion over the lives of all Americans.

The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution clearly limits the president of the United States to two terms in office, after which he is no longer eligible to serve in that capacity. What nobody in the "mainstream" media is saying right now (or will say, though they are clearly aware of it) is anything about an attempt by Team Clinton to circumvent the Constitution and grant Bill Clinton what in effect would be a de facto third term as president. Naturally the liberal press is keeping mum about this; most of those people, given their way, would probably scrap the Constitution altogether and proclaim Bill Clinton king. But the American people need to know what is at stake here. If elected, Her Royal Most Imperial Majesty would of course be the one out in front. But would anyone care to take a guess at who would be secretly calling the shots from behind the scenes? Make no mistake: Clinton I was a co-presidency, and Clinton II will also be a co-presidency, in direct violation of the 22nd Amendment. Clinton's apologists know this full well, and look forward to it with anticipation. It must clearly be stopped.

Hillary RODHAM Clinton wasted no time in carpetbagging her way into New York and politicking her way into the Senate. But this is clearly not enough for her. She's after the White House, and has been ever since she was a young girl. Once she gets it, she will do exactly what her husband did, perhaps not in the same way, but with the same end in mind: she will use it strictly for her own personal gain. The threat could not be clearer, and here is what must be done to combat it. First, Her Royal Most Imperial Majesty's Democratic opponents must bring this aspect of the Clinton candidacy to light. Should they lack the courage to do this -- and they probably will -- it then falls to the Republican nominee to make this a campaign issue, assuming HRMIM to be the Democratic nominee. Finally, the American people must be made aware -- which this column is now attempting to do -- of the threat to our Constitution a Clinton II presidency poses, and must move decisively to squash it at the ballot box.

Next to the Bible, our Constitution is the most sacred and valuable document our country has. It should not be entrusted to the hands of greedy, power-hungry opportunists.
