LEGACY
Edward L. Daley
June 12, 2004
Oh say do you recall his shining city on the hill Though strained and scarred by wickedness, that city stands here still A proud and grateful people watched his strength illuminate her That beautiful, bright city of the Great Communicator
A president, a statesman, and a leader for all time But more than these, a friend to truth, to faith and things sublime One who's will could not be shaken by his grim detractors One among so few of liberty's great benefactors
Although the years have fled, and to a better place he's gone The memory of his honor and his courage still lives on And can you hear the words that made so many spirits soar They echo through the corridors of history and yore
It's morning in America, new hope for one and all We'll live the creed of peace through strength; we can tear down that wall A warrior for freedom, his bold vision cast a glow That ever since has lit the path along which good men go
Oh say now can you see that shining city on the hill To those who haven't seen it yet, I pray someday you will For never in this world before has one so greatly flourished Nor ever have a people had their dreams as fully nourished
So many leaders over time have lived and passed away Yet few have left a legacy as grand as his today A champion to common folk, uncommon for his station Ronald Wilson Reagan died a hero to our nation
