ARON Refuses to Accept PAC and Lobbyist Contributions

For Immediate Release

July 25, 2006

West Hartford CT- Judy Aron, the Republican candidate attempting to unseat six term incumbent Andrew Fleischmann for the 18th State House District has announced she will not accept campaign donations from Lobbyists, PACs, or Unions during this campaign. Aron will also refuse "Ad Book" campaign donations despite the fact that they are still legal.

"While these contributions are technically legal, I want to follow not only the letter of the law but the spirit of it as well." stated Aron. "After seeing my opponent's past campaign finance reports and discovering that despite his voracious fight for campaign finance reform in the General Assembly, he still accepted money from PACs and lobbyists for his Secretary of the State campaign, as well as his past campaigns for State Representative. I am denying all corporate contributions. I refuse to be a bought and paid for elected official," continued Aron, "I was also shocked to learn that even state contractors contributed to Mr. Fleischmann's Secretary of State campaign, while he was a sitting State Representative."

In the 2005 Legislative Session Mr. Fleischmann voted to ban lobbyists, PACs and other special interest groups from making campaign donations directly or through ad books. However, this new law does not go into effect until the 2008 election cycle, leaving the 2006 election cycle unchecked.

Aron stated, "Voting for a law in 2005 but not putting it into effect until 2008 is pretty interesting and it allows Mr. Fleischmann one last stab at raising as much money as possible from the very entities that he says shouldn't be funding campaigns." It is also interesting to note that since he established his State Representative Campaign Committee too late to show any recent meaningful income, we'll have to wait till the October filing to actually see who he is being funded by. Ms. Aron said, "I challenge Mr. Fleischmann to actually follow the law that he voted for by fulfilling the spirit of the new campaign finance laws by refusing these types of contributions and by returning all corporate contributions that he has collected to this point."
